All Wrapped Up: My Favourite Cosy Coats For The Season

There has never been a fashion staple more necessary than a chic and cosy coat. Autumn/Winter is definitely more my season than Spring/Summer, I love nothing more than full-blown layering, getting cosy in big boots and even bigger coats. Jackets and coats are my jam – just ask my friends – it takes a very hot temperature to get me out of a jacket!

Whether you’re as obsessed as I am or happy to stick to one tried and tested number for all occasions, here are a few of my faves and why. I try to stick to timeless classics that roll round every year as much as possible, but I do get taken by the odd trend…

First up, my faux fur French Connection showstopper. This doesn’t get as much air-time as it should (and deserves!) I must admit. Probably because it is the boujee-ist coat I own and the number of boujee outings I go on nowadays are few and far between. I need to get more bouj in my life!

Definitely not an every day wear, my biggest love for this coat is because I know it means Christmas is coming! Every year I reach for it as my go-to for the festive season. Christmas Markets, boozy brunch catch ups, and date nights are made so much better with this oversized silhouette – complete with hood and pockets!

Quilted, cosy puffer coats are an amazing, casual, everyday staple that have been a mainstay in the fashion world for the past few years. This stylish yet definitely practical piece doesn’t look to be going anywhere anytime soon, and that is why I own two!

Having to head out into the cold when you’d rather stay in bed? Wanting to take your duvet with you? You can! I got this long-line puffer coat from Superdry a year or so ago and wow! It’s like a sleeping bag you can walk around in. Thick, heavy and super cosy, perfect for freezing cold temperatures, early morning and late night dog walks.

My other puffer is a lot more lightweight – a black hip-length version from Uniqlo. Probably my most used coat, I find myself reaching for it often as it’s just so easy to throw on over anything and everything.

Oversized and menswear-inspired is a big part of my wardrobe. Enter my ASOS maxi floor-sweeping wool robe coat. However you style it, over a tracksuit like this or cute date-night dress, nothing quite beats the dramatic silhouette created by the oversized tailoring of this beauty. Versatile, timeless and oh-so-chic, this is definitely one of the classiest coats I own. The belt tie pulls in at the waist, making it sleeker and even more effortless.

Speaking of longline, I also want to acknowledge the humble trench coat. Trench coats are a classic staple that can take you from day to night. Although I’ve always longed for a vintage Burberry one, my camel-coloured Zara version does the trick! It helps me make even the simplest outfit feel like a statement.

Less so for this colder weather, but once it starts warming up again, I will be in constant rotation of my All Saints leather jacket, trusty oversized Topshop denim, Barbour check and vintage green satin and black velvet bomber. If you didn’t know I was a 90s/00s kid, that sentence pretty much confirms it!

There you have it, a few of my all time faves. How about you? Are you combatting the Winter blues with standout fur and shearling (something I don’t have but have my eye on), or is a stylish yet practical puffer more your thing? Whatever you love, wrap up warm, look good doing it, and I’ll see you on my next post!

Ooo and on the theme of coats, I was reminded of another old university project. A photoshoot centred on all things outerwear in Liverpool with my friend Kacey. Experimental edits were big on these pictures. Take a look..
